Back to School!
It’s that time of year – children are heading back to school, lunches need to be packed and parents need afterschool activities to keep kids at ease.
Some easy changes and additions to your routine can help this busy time run a little smoother, starting with breakfast. Yes, it’s the most important meal of the day, which means it’s especially important when your kids have a full day of school ahead of them. Incorporate carton-packaged ingredients into your morning recipes to make cooking and cleaning easier.
Looking to make a quick scramble or omelet? Opt for liquid egg, found at most local grocery stores. It’ll save you the mess of egg shells and save space in your fridge. And if you’re looking into breakfast on the lighter side, egg whites are also conveniently pre-separated and packaged in cartons.
If you’ve got a sweet tooth, we love this blueberry pancake recipe . Pair fresh blueberries – in season in August! – with a splash of milk from the carton and a little liquid egg and you’ve got a great start to your morning. Just be sure to recycle all the cartons you’ll be using when they’re done!
Of course, the day only begins with breakfast. When packing your kid’s lunch, miniature juice and milk cartons – like Horizon Organic Milk or Minute Maid juice boxes – make an easy and portable addition to the lunchbox. It’s a nice treat for the kids, too, without splurging on sugary sodas. And of course, those cartons will go a long way once recycled. Just make sure your school has a carton recycling program first! If you’re unsure, confirm with your school whether they recycle food and beverage cartons, so your children can practice recycling at home and at school.
If your kids are still energetic afterschool use remaining cartons to make fun crafts together, like a birdhouse, a miniature home, or even a boat. When the kids are done with their carton creations, be sure to toss the cartons in the recycling bin so they can continue living on as products like paper towels, tissue paper and building materials!
