August Family Fun Recipe: French Toast
CELEBRATE FAMILY FUN MONTH WITH A BREAKFAST CLASSIC
In celebration of Family Fun Month, we’re sharing one family-friendly recipe each Friday. Cooking doesn’t have to feel like a chore, it can also be a time for you and your loved ones to learn and have fun together. Your family will gain basic cooking and nutrition skills that they can use for the rest of their lives. And because we’re incorporating food and beverage products that can be recycled in every recipe, your family will learn how to take care of their bodies and the planet at the same time. This week’s family-friendly recipe features a breakfast classic, french toast.
P.S. This pairs well with milk or your child’s favorite juice box. If their juice box has a straw, remind them to push the straw back into the box when they’re done, and recycle the entire carton.
Ingredients for 6 slices of French Toast:
6 thick slices of bread
2 eggs
2/3 cup milk from a carton
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
1/2 cup of your favorite diced fruit toppings (optional)
1 teaspoon of maple syrup per slice
Make this recipe extra fun – ask your kids to beat together the eggs, milk, salt, spices, and vanilla. Then see who can make a basket into the recycling bin with the empty milk carton! Once that’s recycled, it’s onto the cooking – heat a lightly oiled griddle or skillet over medium-high heat. Invite your kids to dunk each slice of bread in the egg mixture, soaking both sides, then place it on the pan and cook until golden on both sides. Serve warm with your favorite toppings. Eat up! P.S. We like cinnamon, nutmeg, and maple syrup on our french toast! What’s your favorite topping? (tasty face emoji)
