The Current State of Carton Recycling

The Current State of Carton Recycling

We are proud to share that 62.1% of U.S. households can now recycle their cartons through curbside and drop-off programs. That’s over 72 million households in 49 states. 82 of the 100 largest communities have access to carton recycling in places like San Francisco, California and Grand Rapids, Michigan.

When the Carton Council was formed in 2009, carton recycling was only accessible to 18% of households. We are thrilled to reach 62.1%, marking a 244% increase since we got to work. Much of this success can be attributed to our growing community of carton recycling partners and friends who work just as tirelessly as we do to make carton recycling a habitual practice in households across the country.

Moving forward, we can’t wait to bring carton recycling to millions of more families over the course of the year. We hope you will join us in continuing to raise awareness and spread the message to #RecycleYourCartons!
