You know recycling is important. We know recycling is important. However, with busy, hectic lives, sometimes we forget which items go in which bin. Here are a few straightforward, helpful tips to streamline your recycling and your life!
Understand your recycling program! Contact your city website to find out exactly what they accept in your area. Different recycling programs accept different materials. To find out if your community can recycle cartons, visit our website and type your zip code into the search bar on the left-hand navigation column. You’ll be able to find out if your region has a carton recycling program, and if not, you can mail your cartons to one of the following locations:
Altogether Recycling, 645 W 53rd Place, Denver, CO 80216
Firstar Fiber, 10330 “I” Street; Suite 100, Omaha, NE 68127
Tidewater Fiber, 1958 Diamond Hill Road, Chesapeake, VA 23324
Knowing what can be recycled in your area and which bins your items belong in is important – when you place an item in the incorrect bin, it causes contamination and hinders your recycling center’s operations. Place a recycling cheat sheet on your fridge to remind yourself what is and isn’t recyclable in your area – so as soon as you’re done cooking, you know exactly what to do with your empty packaging.
Confirm the day and time that your local recycling center collects your recyclables by checking your city website, and tape a reminder on your bin so you never miss collection day.
If your area accepts recyclables by material type, designate your separate bins with labels! Then, stack them like this to save space:
Make recycling fun! Organize a game for you and your family – whichever family member collects the most recyclables by the end of the week, wins!
